Venezuela Hosts Major Antifascist Congress, Establishes Educational Initiatives
Venezuela convened the Antifascist International For a New World committee in Caracas, gathering over 400 global delegates to strategize against fascism. President Maduro announced the creation of a World Antifascist School, emphasizing the need for educational initiatives. The Congress underlined the importance of joint efforts to combat contemporary fascist ideologies, declaring a commitment to human rights and inclusive dialogue.
On Wednesday, Caracas hosted the Antifascist International For a New World promotional committee, attracting over 400 international delegates. The event, overseen by Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yván Gil and Rander Peña of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), builds on the World Congress Against Fascism held in September. Delegates participated in discussions across seven groups, tackling youth mobilization, communication strategies, and defending human rights, among other critical issues related to anti-fascism.
Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro additionally announced the establishment of the Antonio José de Sucre National School, which will serve as a global center for antifascist education. This initiative arose during the World Congress of Antifascist Youth and Students, which featured participation from over 1,000 students from 72 countries. Maduro affirmed the necessity of integrating diverse training methodologies and combating both traditional fascism and its digital counterpart, cyberfascism.
The Congress concluded with a call for new forms of resistance and community-building to counter dominant imperial narratives. Maduro articulated the concept that confronting fascism requires a deep understanding of its roots in societal discontent, stating that the global anti-fascist movement must focus on building inclusivity and constructive dialogues. Such movements, according to Maduro, are essential not only for Venezuela but for the global community in the quest for human dignity and rights.
The Antifascist International For a New World was initiated to strengthen international cooperation in combating fascist ideologies and practices. The recent meeting in Caracas emerged as a continuation of global dialogues addressing the urgent need for collective action against rising fascism and similar extremist ideologies worldwide. Across various sectors, including youth mobilization and media strategy, the committee aims to create actionable frameworks to resist oppression and uphold fundamental human rights.
In summary, the establishment of the Antifascist International promotional committee in Venezuela marks a significant step in the global struggle against fascism. Through collaborative efforts among diverse international delegates, Venezuela is positioning itself as a leader in antifascist education and advocacy. The proposed school symbolizes a commitment to fostering informed resistance, promoting human rights, and cultivating a multipolar world where oppressive ideologies are met with unity and resilience.
