The men’s team defeated England 2-0, while the women’s team also won 2-0 against the United States. This victory marks Egypt’s seventh title for the men and sixth for the women, solidifying their status as leading nations in squash before the sport’s Olympic debut in 2028.
In the recent WSF Squash World Team Championships 2024 held in Hong Kong, Egypt secured its supremacy in the sport by retaining both the men’s and women’s titles on December 15. The Egyptian men’s team achieved a decisive 2-0 victory over England at the Hong Kong Football Stadium, while the women’s team mirrored this success by defeating the United States with the same scoreline. This triumph marked the men’s seventh world team title, placing them just one behind Australia’s record of eight, while the women’s victory represented their sixth championship.
The women’s final, a repeat of the 2022 contest, saw Egypt claim its fourth consecutive title. Rowan Elaraby initiated the victory with a hard-fought 3-1 win against Marina Stefanoni, greatly boosting the Egyptian team’s morale. Nour El Sherbini, a seven-time world champion, quickly followed and secured the title for Egypt by overcoming Olivia Weaver in four games. Despite the United States putting forth a commendable effort in their second final appearance, they again fell short of the title.
In the men’s category, Egypt’s triumph was orchestrated by Ali Farag, who led his team against England’s Mohamed Elshorbagy, a former world champion. The match between Egypt’s Mazen Hesham and England’s Curtis Malik was particularly grueling, with Hesham emerging victorious after five games. Farag then solidified Egypt’s victory with a 3-1 win over Elshorbagy, further solidifying Egypt’s dominance in the squash realm.
