Cameroon Aims for First Win Against Namibia in 2025 AFCON Qualifiers
Cameroon is set to seek their inaugural victory against Namibia as they host the latter in a crucial qualifier for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. This match is scheduled to take place at the Japoma Stadium on Saturday, September 7, 2024, with kick-off scheduled for 6:00 PM Central Africa Time (CAT).
Under the leadership of Coach Marc Brys, who embarked on his managerial role amid considerable challenges, Cameroon aims to extend their unbeaten streak. Coach Brys has navigated a tumultuous tenure characterized by a strained relationship with the president of the Cameroonian Football Federation, Samuel Eto’o. However, the Belgian manager commenced his regime effectively, securing a decisive 4-1 victory over Cape Verde, followed by a 1-1 draw against Angola in June. These results have positioned Cameroon at the summit of Group D in the ongoing qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
Formerly, Rigobert Song managed the Indomitable Lions, steering them to the round of 16 at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. He was dismissed in February due to a disappointing performance, having achieved only one victory in four matches during the tournament held in Ivory Coast.
Contrarily, Namibia, who also reached the same knockout stage, were not anticipated to progress from Group E, which comprised formidable teams such as Tunisia, Mali, and South Africa. The Warriors exceeded expectations by advancing as one of the best third-placed teams but were eliminated in the first knockout round, succumbing to Angola by a score of 3-0.
Currently, under the direction of Coach Collin Benjamin, Namibia occupies the second position in their qualifying group for the 2026 World Cup, trailing leaders Tunisia by two points. They have maintained an unbeaten start to their campaign, highlighted by successive draws against Liberia and Tunisia.
As the highly-anticipated match approaches, both teams are eager for a favorable outcome, with Cameroon aiming to solidify their position and Namibia looking for an opportunity to assert their strength on the continental stage.
